Synopsis:
This presentation is a heartfelt and raw three-act play that examines the complex relationship between Nia and her mother, Evelyn, as they navigate the deep emotional wounds of domestic violence. Told from both women’s perspectives, the play delves into the pain of trauma, generational cycles of abuse, and the difficult road to healing. Set against a backdrop of family turmoil, this presentation challenges perceptions of love, guilt, and survival, culminating in a journey of reconciliation and hope. Written candidly, this production sheds light on the resilience of the human spirit.
Casting Roles:
1. Nia
– Gender: Female
– Age: Late 20s to early 30s
– Description: A deeply complex character, Nia is both strong and fragile, having endured years of abuse. She is desperate for freedom but unsure how to escape the emotional chains of her life. The actor must possess strong emotional depth to portray Nia’s internal battle between fear, love, and the desire to rebuild herself.
– Character Note: Experience in dramatic roles preferred; emotional intensity and vulnerability required.
2. Evelyn
– Gender: Female
– Age: 50s to early 60s
– Description: Evelyn, Nia’s mother, has been shaped by her own past traumas and lives in denial of the severity of her daughter’s abuse. A character of contradictions, Evelyn is both loving and blind to the damage she has done, making her a layered role that requires nuance and emotional range.
– Character Note: Strong stage presence and experience in portraying conflicted emotional states required.
3. Noah
– Gender: Male
– Age: 6-10 years old
– Description: Noah, Nia’s son, is quiet and reflective, often observing the tension around him without fully understanding it. The actor must be able to communicate the innocence and quiet trauma of a child affected by his environment.
– Character Note: Child actor with experience in emotionally complex roles is preferred.
